And I ve moved, again..

And its time again for the next @indiblogger meetup.

And this meetup prompted me to get my blog up and running again :P I ve moved from slicehost to the parent company rackspace owing to

  • lesser cost
  • Upcoming ipv6 support

Even though slicehost itself is about to integrate into the rackspace infrastructure, meaning slicehost will be moving to rackspace cloud and will be charging similar prices, I, as always, being impatient couldn’t wait and moved :P

I guess the downside of that being that I had to manually move and setup everything myself. Vs maybe slicehost and rackspace would ve provided moving support had I waited for them :P

but anyways, its the next @indiblogger meetup about the samsung galaxy tab that has got me interested in blogging again. I ve my exams in the next week and I woke up this morning with intent to read, but I took the wrong step of opening up twitter. One thing lead to another and here I am blogging. But considering that the entire thing happened in less than two hours, I think it was a pretty efficient usage of time. Time to get ready for office, and then back and then try to study and blog and tweet and all as usual :)

Good thing be that grandmom aka amma is here now. So I dont ve to worry about dining plans :)

PS: There is a new domain as well, hackalyst.info. Right now anshprat.info and hackalyst.info both point to the same site. Maybe I ll merge, maybe I ll let it be.

And the new site is called muddle-muggle. Muddle – coz of the ever presence confusion. Muggle – coz I wish I was a wizard, or atleast had some super powers :P

The wrap up of a beginning! @indiblogger #indiblr meetup!

The Indiblogger meet at Kyra, bangalore sponsored by Kingfisher was a big hit!
The Kyra Theater was almost all jampacked, with all but few of the the 150 attendees being able to attend it. There were a couple of surprise visits also. I mentioned Murali in my last post, where he said “I am not a blogger”. It so turned out that there were a couple of more people who were not bloggers but had tagged along with their blogger friends. Hope these guys get started with blogging soon!

Ok, now about two of the people about whom I mentioned in the last post.
First, the eye opener, the blind blogger who is just visually impaired – Raaghav .
This guy is a role model for people. Not just for visually impaired but for everyone!

The other one is Vivek, the youngest blogger out there in the meetup :)

Well, as always, time flies when its good times!
Before long it was 6 and we had to get out of Kyra!
Thanks a zillion to kingfisher, Kyra and the indiblogger team for the meetup!

Things to do: To write a about us page for the indiblogger team :D as a token of thanks and appreciation!

It was great meeting him and I hope to know and meet him more and then write up more about him!

Then there was this elderly person with Indirank 79! He had great words of wisdoms about blogging and also about indirank :P
Apparently “too many posts in a day to your blog are counted as null” by the indirank! :!

My new home…!!

Hi Guys!

I ve finally moved to my new web home! But why the need to move to a new home? Well, my first move off blogspot to wordpress was cause of SEO reasons. And to try out new open source code. I learned a lot with wordpress.com. There was a time when I was ecstatic whenever my blog will ve double digits visitors. Today its a daily phenomenon. The next thing that has been in my mind for quite sometime was monetization of the blog. Unfortunately the wordpress.com blog won’t allow me to put ads in there. And you can’t make money without putting in some! (Not always though :P ) So the next logical step was to buy my own domain and a webspace and to get going. Other reasons to have my own webspace was the need of a webserver to try out various net related APIs which make use of an API key. Such keys /technologies often require the presence of a domain name for return/verification purpose. Example : OpenID return urls. The free webspaces offered by many webhostings come with the rider of ads! And they wont allow you to put your own ads! Damn it man, thats what I need! And these free webhosting services wont give you root access either! So I opted in for slicehost.com. At $20 per month, the basic 256MB Slice meets our purpose. Our? There are three of us; me, Sahil and Ankit. Well I got the slicehost slice, setup was very easy. Just click next next next and your are done. I bought my domain (anshprat.info) from godaddy.com for $1.07! A steal at any given day! Configuring the DNS was not all that bad if you leave it to the default Total DNS with godaddy and just change the required ip.
Well, so thats the primary reason for me moving off my wordpress.com account! Though I realised that account is still useful! I needed the API key for the Akismet (Anti Spam) and Stats Plugins!
Hope to put up some ads here pretty soon and earn some cash! Hope to breakeven pretty soon!
cheers
